SEWING
When we speak of sewing, the first things that usually come into our minds are sheets of cloths, needles, pins, and spindles of thread. These typically come to mind because they are the tools that are used to complete most sewing projects. With this fast changing world, sewing has become a hobby for many people; it is even an important source of income for a select few individuals. Sewing, which is sometimes referred to as stitching, is basically the skill of fastening pieces of cloth, leather, furs, or any other flexible materials with the use of needles and thread. It is done to construct different clothing and household furnishings (such as curtains, bedclothes, upholstery, and table linens). Sewing can also be used to produce sails, skin boats, banners, and other items that are shaped out from canvas, leathers, or other stiff but flexible materials. Learning to sew is a useful skill that can help you customize your own wardrobe as well as mend or create items around your home. It can also help you save money, for it is often cheaper to sew your own clothes, blankets, etc than it is to go out and buy items in stores. However, sewing your own wardrobe and household furnishings can be a difficult task if you do not have the necessary sewing supplies. These supplies are essential for making your sewing experience more enjoyable and less difficult. Many of these supplies will also speed up the sewing process. Sewing supplies are very important to all sewers whether they are professionals or beginners. Having the right sewing supplies allows you to be more accurate in measurement, cuts, and stitches. This can also lead to more professional looking results. Among the most essential supplies for this skill are: thread, which come available in just about any color; needles of different sizes (and possibly different shapes) depending on the type of cloths you will be sewing; and different texture of cloths. Items such as scissors are also an important part of every sewing supply. It is not necessary to buy an expensive pair scissors. Usually, you can find a pair of paper scissors cheaper than any pair of fabric shears; however, you must make sure that the scissors are a good quality. Once you purchase a pair of scissors for your sewing kit, do not use those scissors on paper or any other material not found in your sewing kit. Paper and other materials cause dents and scrapes in the scissors which will fray fabric when you then use the scissors while sewing. Straight pins and pincushion, as well as the tape measurers, are also necessary to complete your basic sewing supplies. |
